Constantly on the hunt and suffering from hallucinations that drive his violent nature, an unnamed man is capturing women and savagely beating them to death. Meanwhile, a woman is luring men into a violent end, by way of her knife. Driven by the same force to make the opposite sex suffer, the killers’ fates intertwine. The two must face off in a battle to the death, in which they are forced to reveal the horrible truth behind their addiction to murder.
“Brutal” takes an interesting approach to its visuals, drawing heavy influence from Western “Grindhouse” films, using a filter to make the footage appear grainy, damaged, and with light and color fluctuations. Unfortunately, the visual styling ends up feeling misguided, as other than applying the filter it does not imitate any other aspects of the “Grindhouse” genre. Despite trying to dirty up the film, it is apparent it was shot on digital. The cinematography is also a step above most “Grindhouse” productions, with Takashi Hirose proving he has talent behind the camera. Exterior shots to those taking place in small spaces are all competently framed, lit, and transition well. The decision to add an effect on top of the work hurts the film’s imagery and even gives a sense of desperation to try to capture a certain type of nostalgia with the audience, instead of relying on its own strengths. It is unfortunate when one creative choice can hurt a production so much.
The story of “Brutal” is simple but effective, it does attempt some sort of social commentary about the violent nature of men and women, but it does not offer enough depth into the subject to justify the amount of violence on display. The film does end on a strong note with an interesting twist, with a reveal that is bound to gross some out, while giving others a chuckle. In spite of its simple nature, those who enjoy films that make them somewhat uncomfortable and enjoy the challenge of getting through some ultra-violence, “Brutal” poses a fun and entertaining challenge in that regard.
这样的爱情轻喜剧，没看就知道不是什么好电影，但瘾还贼大。轻松没负担的同时，还有几处出人意料挺好玩的地方，已经足够了。但是，圣诞题材电影现在上是不是早了点啊？还有欧阳和Nina完全没火花，可信度接近于零。
①歌舞片对于场面调度的要求更高，但斯皮尔伯格做得真是棒；②人类愚蠢的一个表现就是，许多仇恨，都是莫名其妙的存在，往小了说是西区故事，往大了说就是宗教冲突，民族仇恨，甚而至于假借冠冕堂皇头衔的各种战争；③剧情上有硬伤，男女主角的人选也似可商榷，尤其男主，有点城乡结合部年轻俊才的意思。
中规中矩的圣诞爱情喜剧片 就是这个颜值差距有点大 虽然说过很多次了 但是nina真的是比起之前垮得太快了 当然现在也是好看的
经典的东西就留在过去好不好…何必再浪费这么多钱做个大型舞台剧
几乎每个镜头的调度运镜构图打光都值得拿出来学习，但叙事极为乏味，音乐舞蹈也没什么吸引力，分三次勉强看完，我的DNA里没这个。
这个剧本也太烂了吧 主角们还都是小学生吗？
呃，如果性别对掉我还能接受。丑男配美女的例子还少吗？男的但凡有点才华就有女的喜欢，女的呢，长得丑好歹拿自己的照片p，还得一直活在“见光死”“照骗”的恐惧里，反观男主角不但偷拿朋友的照片，还约女主角来家里，自信的一批。对女人来说爱很难，对男人来说不是。
咱就是说很久没看过这么难看的电影了，奶奶那段不错
又是无法理解安塞尔埃尔高特能演男主的一天呢~

3.5 enjoy it better with this new one, with better choreograph, cinematograph and maybe the cast except the leading actor. BUT BUT this is still the same story which I could not agree with on many aspects. where's the original story / idea.. and when to stop endless sequels and reboots..
画面舞蹈很好，女二演的也好，男女主的人设和演技都无法理解。
斯皮尔伯格再次证明了自己是全才导演，歌舞场面的调度和排演都丝毫不输百老汇，这让同期的《倒数时刻》相形见绌。和陀螺“高清重制”的《玉面情魔》一样，两位名导在服化道和制作层面下了很大的功夫，让影片看起来充满着好莱坞黄金时代气息，但原封不动的六十年前的剧本在如今看来老套且过时，缺乏时代两点，有意思的是二者都在颁奖季斩获颇丰。此外从本片看来，安塞尔·艾尔高特并没有在《极速车神》故意演出角色的“迟钝”，而是真的没有演技，他在影片中像是一个痴情的幼稚娃娃脸，在这一班角色中极其出戏。
圣诞又多一烂片，恶俗到极致，讲真现在再看copy真爱至上的桥段老子简直要吐了。作为一个真的在网恋软件捡到未婚夫的人，我对该片的扯淡之处简直无言以对。另外，不要以貌取人的道理我都懂，但是连我这样一个普通人看到男一的小矮个儿单眼皮都会直接滑走好吗……
搞不懂斯皮尔伯格为啥要翻拍西区故事，新版比起60年前的老版，不但唱的不行，跳的不行，编剧不行，视效不行，摄剪音不行，服化道不行，而且演员还又丑又笨，据说成本超1亿美元，就为了凸现最后一刻的族裔和解？
Only very few moments capture some glimpses of a Gene Kelly musical. Unlike Bruce Lee’s martial arts, actors fail to express themselves truly through body movements or singing, although Spielberg's mise-en-scene nails it, the 2021 version of WSS is far from a good remake. Still love it for speaking up for the minorities.
我是看了个罗朱么……某首曲子还行。歌舞部分拍的还行。关键是，白男比较碍眼，实在是忍不住那个救世主的傻样，女主还是挺可爱的。还有，麻烦下次别整那种显得男主很高大女主很娇弱的机位了行不，说的就是那个小拳拳砸胸口那个镜头。可以理解好评的人和差评的人了。（里头种族歧视和白人排外的台词有点让人不适。
亚裔成为男主，突破了之前的某种界限，冲着这个就值得推荐！
在没有字幕的情况下观看有门槛，尤其是要分辨西语和带西语口音的英语，似乎是为了美国西语观众翻拍，以弥补原作用非拉丁裔出演的时代遗憾，但可能他们看也和大陆地区看尚气差不多，觉得是文化挪用。片子前半部分有张艺谋的错觉，动辄数十人齐刷刷的舞蹈，用演员服装的配色制造视觉张力展现族群间的冲突。但我喜欢斯老对这种张力的取舍，一个是舞台后接吻的镜头，还有一个是男主站在楼底和女主对唱的镜头，上一帧还很炫目迷幻，下一帧就切到黑白为主体的色调。这可能是斯老对这个题材和形式的反思，美好的幻想只存在于被冲昏头脑的人里，就像原版提及的移民/少数族裔问题到今天也还在，歌舞类型和古典戏剧改编剧本的形式却已经过时。男主演技烂如国内鲜肉，尤其是最后在地下让人尬得背贴座椅；混音也可以炒了，女一女二吵架戏的刺耳程度太可怕了
……我以为自己什么歌舞片都喜欢，谢谢您，我错了
